more things

We need to start thinking about setting up our store and deciding on a name. Remember that we are going to be working on packaging as well so it should be easily translated on to a box or a card. We should also consider what kind of jewelry we would like to make. Should we pick something universal? Rings or bracelets are sometimes a hard sell because of sizing issues. Should we just sell brooches pendants and necklaces? What are we going to make our jewelry out of? Think about designing jewelry based on a limited production model. How many widgets can you afford to make? How many things can you fit on a 12' x 18" piece of plexi?

Along with your budget I would like all of you to design a line of jewelry on the computer that will be laser cut. This can be made from plexi, paper, chipboard or felt. I can supply a limited amount of plexi and possibly some felt in limited colors. Think about findings. If you are going to make a pendent I would possible stick with ball chain. If you are making a brooch I would try to figure out what you are going to use for a pin back. Over spring break I would like each of you to finish up your studio budgets, design a potential logo for our store and start on what you think you would like to make. When we get back from spring break we will be headed right into the studio and start on other demos

here is where I ordered that plexi:

make your own

Hey guys I want you to come up with a studio budget.

Be as precise as possible

  • If you need to find out about the price of refilling a tank call Cryo Weld in Kingston
  • If you need to know how much a jeweler's bench cost look it up in the Rio catalogue
  • If you want to include rent divide your rent by the square footage to determine the cost of your studio area.
  • If you want to find out how much material you buy, you could look at your receipts or you could weigh a finished piece and add %15

First: immediate costs (tools, furniture, lamps etc)
Second: long term (materials, rent, gas, etc)
